We get asked this question alot - which is better: SpaceClaim Engineer or Solidworks? The answer usually falls under "it depends on your goals". They are both modern day CAD platforms with SolidWorks being around the market for about 18 years when they offered an alternative to the expensive PTC and SDRC solutions.
We find that SpaceClaim Engineers strength lies within the model repair arena and it's ability to quickly change a solid feature without the need to mess with it's originating history tree. A perfect tool for the CAE or analysts who does not need nor wishes to invest a significant amount of time to defeature, modify or repair solids created by a designer who is unaware of the model quality requirement. Though we found SpaceClaim Engineer to be a very capable tool for industrial design and for many companies - a perfect fit, one should not compare at a feature level but rather choose the right tool for the job.
For a non-designer who needs to alter solid geometry quickly and easily, SpaceClaim Engineer is hard to beat.
